From Unloved Spare Room to Sleek, Modern Retreat
Spare rooms often become forgotten spaces—used for storage or passed over in favour of more lived-in areas. But with a little creativity and some clever design, even the most overlooked room can become a standout. This makeover turned an unloved spare room into a sleek, monochrome-inspired bedroom full of modern style and personality.
Bold Statement with a Wall Mural
Instead of traditional wallpaper, I chose a wall mural to create a striking focal point. Murals are a fantastic way to inject impact and depth into a space—giving it an artful, tailored feel that sets the tone for the rest of the room.
Modern Monochrome Accents
The colour palette was kept clean and monochrome, giving the room a crisp, contemporary edge. Black and white accents create contrast and drama, while layered textures keep the space feeling warm and inviting—not cold or clinical.
Personalised Details
To make the space truly unique, I added bespoke prints and a custom cushion—small touches that tie the design together and add personality. These details not only elevate the overall look but help the room feel thoughtfully styled and lived in.
Final Thoughts
This spare room is now anything but spare. With modern design elements, personalised details, and a bold mural feature, it’s been transformed into a chic and inviting bedroom retreat. A perfect example of how even the most forgotten corners of the home can shine with the right vision.
Favourite Element
This would be the bespoke prints and custom cushions. These are part of EmsiLou Creative designs - an extension to my gift shop Dalby Home & Gifts. I create all the designs so I can design something unique for my client.
